The International Checkers Association of North America proudly announces The 2nd International Tournament in International 10x10 Checkers - USA OPEN 2009 - "Kolman Turiy Memorial" in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.

The tournament is open to all checker players regardless of experience.

Expected participation of many players from different countries.

 

Where

Sunny Isles, Florida (fly to Miami (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale (FLL) airports).

When

December 5-13, 2009. Opening and first round will be held on December 6, 2009.
Plan to arrive on December 5, 2009 and no later than morning of December 6, 2009.
Plan to leave no earlier than late evening of December 12, 2009.

Rates

$89.00 + 13% tax per room (2 double beds, up to 4 people),
including resort fee and continental breakfast.
Rooms with kitchenettes or extra rollaway bed are $10.00 more per day.

Transportation

The hotel is situated about 30 minutes driving from both airports, a little bit closer to FLL.
Shuttle buses, taxis, and car rentals are available at both airports.
A public bus stop next to the hotel can take you to South Beach and Miami sightseeing.

Inscription Fee

$US 100* (Up to $25 discounts may be available depending on availability of funds).

Exact amounts are TBD based on availability of funds.

  2009 ICAONA Tournament Invitation Letter

PLEASE NOTE that December is a prime tourist season in Miami.  The airlines tickets may
get expensive closer to the tournament dates. Organization committee highly advises to book the flights early.

Results:

Congratulations to Big-Board winners in Florida
 
 Yuriy Chertok and Oleg Dashkov, both from Russia, tied for first in the Kolman Turiy Memorial tournament for 100-square checkers in Sunny Isles, suburb of Miami, Florida, December 6-13, 2009.  Chertok was first on tie-break points.
 
  Top U.S. resident was Jean Michelet Giraud, East Orange, New Jersey, who tied with several others for 4th place.  Mr. Giraud earned the title of U.S. Champion.
 
  Tournament director was Lyublyana Turiy, daughter of the late Grandmaster.  29 players competed in all, about half of them visitors from other countries including Russia, Costa Rica, Surinam, Haiti, Antigua, Trinidad, and even Mali in West Africa.
